A cement company had to meet the challenge of cheaper imported cement by reducing cost. Instead of retrenching staff, we created small businesses that not only provided goods and services to the main company and society as a whole, and re-employed employees into these small companies. This changed the image of the company giving them a strong company brand that attracted talented people.
If you wish to manage Human Capital you have to measure it, and you have to measure the outputs not the process. By measuring the outputs you can manage the efficiency and effectiveness of the processes.
The Core Values are the real values – beliefs – that drive the success of the company
Each value has observable behaviours that express the value.
Core Values and behaviours are written into all Policies, Procedures and Systems.
Managers live the values and behaviours all the time.
Performance Appraisal develops the values and behaviours, Performance Evaluation reward and recognize the values and behaviours.
At the start of any journey it is imperative to have the end in mind. Know where you are going and how you are going to get there. This will dramatically increase
the chances of you arriving at your destination – on time.
There are alternatives to this thinking.
The successful creation of a positive culture within the company is then seen by outsiders as the “Aura that surrounds the company” – this is the Company Brand. The H.R. Brand is evaluated by the company’s ability to Attract and Retain Talent.
